The commemoration began with the Moose Club hosting breakfast for first responders. At 8:46 am, a procession of Fire, Police, and EMS vehicles from Waynesboro, Mont Alto, Blue Ridge Summit, and New Franklin headed east on Main Street. A September 11 Memorial vehicle owned by Steve Barry, decorated with 9/11 artwork, participated in the procession. Despite a rain shower, Waynesboro citizens came out to witness the solemn motorcade travel through town. At Red Run Park, local officials and first responders remembered those who lost their lives 25 years ago and honored the courage of emergency personnel in New York City and Washington, DC. Rep. Chad Reichard and State Senator Doug Mastriano delivered remarks, and an honor guard laid a wreath at the 9/11 Memorial.
