Green Hill Cemetery and Arboretum hosting Fall Foliage Foray on October 21

Green Hill Cemetery has invited members of the Envirothon Club, the Gardening Club, and any other interested students from the Waynesboro Area Senior High School and the Middle School to its first annual Fall Foliage Foray. The event will be held at the cemetery on Wednesday, October 21, at 3 PM. The event is part of the continuing celebration of Green Hill’s designation as an official arboretum in 2026.

The program will begin with a presentation from Tom McCloud, followed by a guided tree tour led by High School Junior Quinn Coulter, a Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful Ambassador. Light refreshments will be provided. While the event is designed as an educational program for local students, this environmental presentation is also open to the public.

Tom McCloud is a long-time member of Green Hill’s board of Directors and the current chairman of the Grounds Committee. Tom came to Waynesboro in 1974 to manage the Appalachian Nursery. In 1984, he purchased the business and operated it until 2016. He then worked for the Jackson & Perkins Company, first in the Research Department in New York, and then he spent seven years in California in Hybridizing. Tom is a Pennsylvania Certified Horticulturist, a member and past President of the PA Landscape & Nursery Association, and a member of Waynesboro’s Shade Tree Commission.
