ARTIST PROFILE: SETH HOLMES CELEBRATES 1ST ANNIVERSARY OF HIS DOWNTOWN GALLERY, OFFERS NEW ARTWORK AND CLASSES
By The Daily Boro Staff
Artist Seth Holmes unveiled his downtown Waynesboro gallery in October 2024. During the upcoming weeks, he will celebrate that milestone by hosting a studio tour and exhibiting new artworks. Holmes Watercolors is located in the town square at 8 East Main Street between Wee Scot Bookshop and the Candy Kitchen.
Seth Holmes works primarily with watercolors, using vibrant colors and playful exaggeration that invite viewers to see familiar places with fresh eyes. The Frederick native constantly explores his interest in architecture, and since moving to Waynesboro, the town’s buildings have inspired him. Holmes also enjoys the Boro’s small-town charm and support for the arts.
During the Art Studio Tour on Saturday, November 1, Holmes will engage with art patrons and showcase new work. The tour is sponsored by the Greater Waynesboro Arts Alliance and will include 6 studios or galleries during the event.
Holmes’ artwork is lively and distinct, winning numerous awards, including a Grand Prize at Historic Frederick’s Holiday Art Competition. The artist’s creations have been exhibited at numerous area galleries, including The Delaplaine Arts Center, Gallery 50, Wilson College, 42 West Arts, and The Nisei Gallery. With his Waynesboro exhibit space, Holmes established a permanent venue to showcase his architectural portraits and other works, which reflect his unique vision.
Seth recently participated in Greencastle’s triennial Old Home Week and created live paintings during that weeklong event.
Holmes teaches students who seek improvement with their creative skills. He also accepts commissions from individuals and businesses who appreciate one-of-a-kind portraits of homes, businesses, or people.
